Zoox Robotaxi Takes a Gamble on Vegas
Zoox robotaxi has officially announced their launch in Las Vegas.
Zoox’s robotaxi features no driver, no steering wheel or pedals. The Las Vegas launch marksthe first time a fully driverless purpose-built robotaxi has operated autonomously on public roads in the state of Nevada. This state is the second city Zoox is operating autonomously in, following a deployment in Foster City, CA, in February.
Zoox’s route will begin with one-mile loop around the neighborhood where their Las Vegas HQ is located, and we will expand over the coming months. Zoox robotaxis can transport four people at a time along this public route, at speeds up to 35 mph. The first riders are Zoox employees, who will help shape the company’s future public service.
The initial route was chosen to put the autonomous vehicle through its paces as it navigates several unprotected turns and multi-way stops—all on busy public roads with cyclists, pedestrians, and cars.
